this entire episode is a treasure.

Hearing loss is real. It’s not something to take lightly.

raversaurusrex:

With recent news of Zedd losing hearing in his left ear, I really want to talk about the topic of hearing loss. Most of you who have been following me for awhile have always heard me preaching about the importance of ear plugs. Hearing loss is permanent, it doesn’t heal like most the rest of your body does. Once the damage is done, you’re out of luck pretty much. Talk to anyone who has gotten Tinnitus and they will say their biggest regret in life was not wearing ear plugs. With music being something that really is important to us, I am sure most of you would want to be able to hear well for your entire life.

These EDM shows are LOUD, pushing sometimes 130+  dB sometimes and I’ve experienced what it’s like to be in that environment without hearing protection. I started using earplugs very early on and I can’t say enough on how much they have improved my raving experience. Proper ear plugs will not ruin the sound quality or block out the music, only lower the dB level. You’ll not only get to enjoy the music, but come out hearing just like when you went in.

You can get reusable, “musicians plugs” which are less than $20 and provide enough protection and can be used over and over again. Personally, and I know a lot of other people who do as well, I use Etymotic ER20 (http://www.etymotic.com/hp/er20.html) ear plugs and I never go to a show without them. I’ve been front row at Excision with 150,000 watts PK sound and have been able to walk out of the show hearing fine. No ringing, no muffled hearing, no pain.

PLEASE consider your options when it comes to your hearing. You have nothing to lose and those who make fun of you if you do wear plugs are just ignorant. If you have any questions or concerns about this, I will be glad to answer them or give you more info/ articles on this topic.

Til death do us part

This might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

Okay, guys, I know I said I was going to bed but can I just point out one little thing here?
Do you notice how it’s blurry at the beginning and suddenly sharpens at the end?
When it’s blurry, it’s because when you’re in love, you supposedly don’t see anything other than the person you love.
And when it sharpens, it’s because the world has come back into focus now that their loved one is gone.
SYMBOLISM.

Yes.

In The Not So Distant Future, Glow-In-The-Dark Trees Could Replace Street Lights

Is that… is that even healthy?

There are sea organisms and fungi which glow in the dark and there’s fireflies and jellyfish which glow in the dark. It doesn’t do them any harm nor does it do the people around them any harm. I would say its pretty healthy, as well as it would mean more photosynthesis happening in cities which mean cleaner air.

I was just curious about how they were doing it and for some reason I didn’t think to click the link. But thanks! It makes more sense now. I was afraid it was some kind of chemical thing.

nah just genetic modification using existing bioluminescent genes. Genetics is really cool, and so is bioluminescence. I mean they’ve already made pigs glow using jellyfish genes and pigs are waaay more complicated than trees iirc. So they’re actually (i think) less likely to muck it up with trees.

In which case

GLOWY

FORESTS

GLOWY

TREES

GLOWY

EVERYTHING

(I like glowy things)

never judge someone on their music taste. you may not agree with it or like it, but music is such a deep, personal thing and can mean the world to them. a song could remind them of someone/thing they’ve lost, or it could make them happy when they are sobbing at 4 in the morning. you can never fully understand someone, so you should never fully judge someone.
